Checking a plastic surgeon in Norway
In Norway, a plastic surgeon should hold an approved specialty in Plastikkirurgi on the Health Personnel Register. Here's where to check it and what to look for.
The register must be checked by hand; we check societies and hospitals. Last checked 18 October 2026What the titles mean in Norway
The Health Personnel Register (HPR) records every authorised health professional in Norway. Its search needs a Norwegian HelseID login.
Because HPR needs a login, it must be checked by hand. We check the Norwegian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, whose full members must hold the specialty, and the European aesthetic society's directory.
What we check for Norwegian surgeons
Society membership is voluntary. Not being a member doesn't mean a surgeon isn't qualified.
How to check it yourself
- Log in to the Health Personnel Register with HelseID and search the surgeon's name. Health Personnel Register
- Check the authorisation is active and 'Plastikkirurgi' is an approved specialty.
- If you can't log in, ask the clinic for the surgeon's HPR number.
Common questions
Does HPR show licence restrictions?
Not in full. The Directorate says conditions and restrictions aren't shown in detail, and employers should ask to see the licence decision.
