Checking a plastic surgeon in Belgium
In Belgium, a plastic surgeon should hold the recognised specialty in Chirurgie plastique, reconstructrice et esthétique / Plastische, reconstructieve en esthetische heelkunde. Here's where to check it and what to look for.
We read the official register directly. Last checked 18 October 2026What the titles mean in Belgium
Belgium's federal health service and INAMI/RIZIV record each doctor's right to practise and recognised specialty, published through Health PRO. The Ordre des médecins / Orde der artsen keeps the Tableau of registered doctors.
We read Health PRO directly and cross-check the Ordre's Tableau, then check university hospital plastic surgery teams.
What we check for Belgian surgeons
Society membership is voluntary. Not being a member doesn't mean a surgeon isn't qualified.
How to check it yourself
- Search the surgeon's name on Health PRO, choosing doctor as the profession. Health PRO
- Check the specialty reads 'Chirurgie plastique reconstructive et esthétique'; the INAMI number usually ends in 210.
- Search the name on the Ordre's 'Trouver un médecin' to confirm they're on the Tableau.
